POMEROY – The Pomeroy High School boys’ basketball team defeated Yakama Nation Tribal School to a 59-56 victory on Saturday, December 18.

Trent Gwinn scored 27 points for the Pirates while teammate Trevin Kimble added 17, Oliver Severs had 7, Trace Roberts 5, Brodie Magil 3.

The Pirates went to the fourth quarter with a 47-45 lead and won.

“Tonight’s game was a quick home and back game all night long,” said Pirates coach Chris Wolf. “The boys remained calm the entire game, with YNT putting pressure on the ball the entire game.

“We gave up 56 points tonight, but we played our best defensive game. YNT hit some really tough 3-pointers tonight with a hand to the face. Judge Hart took several contested shots, but Trent Gwinn and Trevin Kimble did a great job working it out for every hit he took.

“We executed offensively tonight at an extremely high level and took some contested shots.

“We hit a season high with seven 3-pointers tonight. Trent Gwinn led the way with 27 points before getting injured with about 5 minutes left. Trevin Kimble had 17 points and several key rebounds. Ollie Severs and Brady Bott made big plays on the bench and defended very well.

“It was the most complete game we have played in a long time. Nice win tonight against a very good team.”

The Pirates will then play on Monday night in Richland at Liberty Christian.
