3×3 basketball has become the latest sport to be confirmed on the program for the 2023 European Games in Krakow-MaÅopolska.
The European Olympic Committees (EOC) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) have signed an agreement that will see 3×3 make its third consecutive appearance at the European Games.
The sport was presented at the inaugural Games in Baku in 2015 and was also on the program of the 2019 event in Minsk.
Sixteen teams are scheduled to participate in the men’s and women’s 3×3 tournaments in Krakow-MaÅopolska 2023.
â3×3 basketball is a fan favorite, as we have seen in the first two editions of the European Games with a large and enthusiastic crowd,â said Hasan Arat, chairman of the EOC Coordination Commission.
“The addition of 3×3 basketball demonstrates the EOC’s commitment to bringing the best sporting actions and top athletes from Europe to Krakow-Malopolska in two years.”
FIBA Europe Executive Director Kamil Novak said that “FIBA is very proud to see 3×3 become one of the faces of the European Games”.
âAfter the success of Baku 2015 and Minsk 2019, we are looking forward to another exceptional event in Krakow-Malopolska,â added Novak.
3×3 basketball joins archery, badminton, beach handball, boxing, canoeing, cycling karate, modern pentathlon, muaythai, shooting, sport climbing, taekwondo and triathlon in the part of the Krakow-MaÅopolska 2023 program.
Other sports are expected to follow in the coming weeks.
The Games are expected to be held in Krakow and the MaÅopolska region, although a binding organizing agreement has yet to be signed.
Silesia will also play a role in organizing the event, which runs from June 21 to July 3, 2023.
